What would happen if I started a TV Network called W.E.T. (WHITE Entertainment Television)?

August 26, 2010 by

would that be ok? Would it be allowed on the list of tv channels for cable and satellite and all the types of tv things you could watch from?

I mean, the Hispanics get to have Univision
The Blacks get B.E.T
The Asians get LA18
The Jews get the Jewish Channel
ect………………

Why cant the white race get our own tv channel? How is this fair? We cant even have our own month either! Why are white people getting discriminated like this?

The people that advocate "White Entertainment Television" are oftentimes hardcore racist conservatives that complain about what they perceive as a double-standard without considering the history and reasoning of BET’s formation in the first place. Also, considering the fact that the average American television show already contains White-majority casts, a network centred around "White entertainment" will only contain racist material broadcasted and/or suggested by people that advocate "WET." In other words, since regular television is already White majority to begin with, what do you think a possible station advocated by far-Right conservatives will broadcast? Racist far-Right material. For that reason, WET would not last long anyway because in the 21st century, racism is not tolerated by mainstream America such as during the Jim Crow days. BET, on the other hand, formed in the 80′s, which was, believe it or not, a time when Black people were rarely featured on television. Robert L. Johnson, Black billionaire, wanted to open a station that would appeal to a majority of viewers. Considering the fact that Black people were rarely featured on television, Johnson created "Black Entertainment Television" to not only feature more Blacks on TV, but to also make a profit. In comparison, why create WET for any reason other than a perceived double-standard, considering White people already tune into a majority of American TV shows in the first place and comprise the majority of cast members?

I will be a senior this fall. I have a 2.5-2.8 gpa with AP and honors classes, I have been in the French club, journalism club where I am treasurer, marching band, the school newspaper for four years as well as being entertainment editor, I’ve completed all required classes with a passing grade, got a 1660 on my SATs-620 in reading, 610 in writing, and 430 in math but I will be retaking it. I have a letter of recommendation from an alumni and am of Hispanic descent.

No sorry to burst your bubbles but that gpa is very low, I suggest you get 3.5-3.8 gpa if you wanted to be considered next year however a 4.0 is never bad lol

Why doesn’t Al Sharpton go after those other than white people for saying the N word?

August 16, 2010 by

I hear comedians, rappers, & actors (Black, Asian, Hispanic) use the word in entertainment and other context – but as soon as a white entertainer uses it, Sharpton is on him/her like white on rice. Why the double standard?
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to use the word – I just don’t want OTHER people using it too. It sends mixed messages.

I totally understand what you mean. It’s like some people only think its a racist term if white people use it, but people of other races can toss it around like its nothing. I guess it only seems racists when a group that isn’t a minority uses it. I still don’t think its right, and it definitely sends mixed signals.
